Sportsmanship Code of Conduct

BENT CREEK SWIM TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP CODE OF CONDUCT

As a member of the Lancaster County Summer Swim League, Bent Creek Swim Team abides by the league's code of conduct which states “LSSL requires all sports officials to enforce the sportsmanship rules for coaches, contestants and spectators. Actions meant to demean opposing swimmers, teams, spectators and officials are not in the highest ideals of summer swimming and will not be tolerated. Let each contest reflect mutual respect.”

True to the spirit of the league’s code of conduct, we hold firmly that the Bent Creek summer swim team should foster a culture in which swimmers of all levels and abilities come together to have fun, learn valuable life skills, and compete in a positive and supportive environment.

We define SPORTSMANSHIP as showing respect for:

  • Teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, and spectators by using kind and positive words.
  • Teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, and spectators by cheering for ALL swimmers.
  • Teammates by keeping your hands to yourself.
  • Teammates and coaches by not touching the belongings of others.
  • Coaches by accepting line up choices.
  • Coaches by discussing swim team related issues directly with the coach.
  • Coaches, swimmers, and their families by refraining from coaching other families’ swimmers.
  • Swimmers and their families by discussing swimmers using only kind and positive words.

The following DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS will be taken when the above Sportsmanship expectations are not met:

Swimmer

  • First offense: A coach will address the issue directly with the swimmer. The parents of the swimmer will receive an email notification from the Parent Board. The parents will be asked to confirm receipt of the email.
  • Second offense: A coach will address the issue directly with the swimmer. The parents of the swimmer will receive a phone call from a member of the Parent Board notifying them that their swimmer will be suspended from all team activities for one week. A follow-up email will be sent from the Parent Board.
  • Third offense: The parents of the swimmer will receive a phone call from a member of the Parent Board notifying them that their swimmer has been removed from the swim team roster for the remainder of the summer swim season. In such situations, swim team fees will not be refunded. A follow-up email will be sent from the Parent Board.

Parent

  • First offense: The issue will be discussed with the parents by a member of the Parent Board. A follow-up email will be sent from the Parent Board.
  • Second offense: The issue will be discussed with the parent by a member of the Parent Board. The parents will be asked to abstain from all swim team-related activities for one week. A follow-up email will be sent from the Parent Board.
  • Third offense: The issue will be discussed with the parents by a member of the Parent Board. The parents will be asked to abstain from all swim team related activities for the duration of the summer swim season. A follow-up email will be sent from the Parent Board.

Volunteer Responsibilities

Summer swim meets are only possible when every volunteer position is filled. Each family on our team is required to volunteer for at least one job at each swim meet that they have a swimmer participating (home, away, invitational and championship meets). We are a small team, and therefore need the help of every member to run an efficient swim meet. We thank you in advance for your willingness to support our team!

Fundraising Responsibilities

We make fundraising for our team easy - after all it is summer!

We have two main fundraisers:

  • Lazy Summer Fundraiser - In lieu of asking families to sell items we offer the option to make a donation to the team when you register. This fundraiser is used to help cover coach salaries and the purchase or repair of team equipment.
  • Bake Sale - We host a bake sale during each home swim meet. We ask that each family donate at least one item to the bake sale at home swim meets in addition to their volunteering responsibilities. The proceeds from the bake sale offset the cost of our team banquet including such expenses as: awards, team gifts, entertainment and decorations.

Please note -our team holds these fundraisers to cover team expenses that are not covered through the cost of registration. As a team we are responsible to cover a significant amount of the coaches salaries, team equipment used for practice and meets and costs associated with the team website. We may also have other fundraisers throughout the season to raise money if unexpected costs arise. We hope that you will support the team by participating, we appreciate every donation!

Release of Liability Waiver

In operating the swim team program, the Bent Creek Country Club and its representatives take reasonable precautions to make activities safe. However, participation in the sport of swimming has inherent risk. Serious injuries are uncommon but risks remain and the staff can only minimize, not eliminate all risks. We require participants to obey all safety rules and instructions at all times. Although the coaches, lifeguards and representatives of the Bent Creek Country Club will endeavor to act responsibly and with care, as condition of participation in the swim team program, participants are required to release all related staff thereof from claims and/or demands for losses of property, or for personal injuries to themselves or their children that may arise from ordinary negligence.

I, the undersigned, further agree to not hold the Bent Creek Country Club or its representatives liable for any and all claims and/or demands for property damage, and/or personal injury to myself and/or my child that may result from ordinary negligence.
